Harnaz sandhu: Miss Universe 2021

Harnaaz Sandhu crowned Miss Universe 2021. She is representing India as 70th Miss Universe 2021. The competition for Miss Universe Crown held in Universe Dome, Eilat, Israel.

This is a proud moment for India. 21 years after Lara Dutta won the title now Harnaaz Sandhu crowned as Miss Universe.

Before Harnaaz only two Indians won the title of Miss Universe, Sushmita Sen in 1994 and Lara Dutta in 2000. Earlier there were just two names of Indians who were crowned as Miss Universe but now Ms. Sandhu is 3rd Indian to win the title.

Harnaaz Sandhu won the title by edging out Paraguay’s Nadia Ferreira and South Africa’s Lalela Mswane. Ms. Sandhu presented the crown by Andrea Meza, former Miss Universe 2020 from Mexico.  

Apart Best National Costume title given to Maristella Okpala from Nigeria, Spirit of Carnival Award to Chantel O’Brian from The Bahamas and Social Impact Award to Antonia Figueroa from Chile.

Competition rounds :

There were 80 contestants in the Pageant to win the title of Miss Universe. The pageant included traditional displays of national costumes, evening gowns, and swimwear, as well as there, were a series of questions to test contestants’ public speaking skills.

During the competition for the crown, Ms. Sandhu was asked what advice she would give to young women on how to deal with the pressures they face?

Ms. Sandhu answered this question in a composed manner, she said “The biggest pressure the youth of today is facing is to believe in themselves, to know that you are unique and that’s what makes you beautiful. Stop comparing yourself with others and let’s talk about more important things that are happening worldwide. This is what you need to understand. Come out, speak for yourselves because you are the leader of your life, you are the voice of your own. I believed in myself and that’s why I am standing here today.”

Harnaaz Sandhu :

Harnaaz Sandhu is a 21-year-old from Punjab and Punjabi model by profession. She started her journey in pageantry at the age of just 17.

She previously crowned as Miss Diva 2021, Femina Miss India Punjab 2019, and was even in the top 12 at Femina Miss India 2019.
