Driver Less: How Self Driving Cars can Change the World

A self-driving car or driverless car known as an autonomous vehicle. Popularly this car is popular by the name of a robocar.

This car can sense its environment and move safely with little or no human input. The future of this technology may have an impact on multiple industries and other circumstances.

Features of Robocar :

  • It is a combination of a variety of sensors to perceive their surroundings, such as radar, lidar, sonar, GPS. Odometry and inertial measurement units.
  • The advanced control systems of the car interpret sensory information to identify the appropriate path to move forward without getting stick to the obstacles.
  • Driverless cars shared robotaxis and connected vehicle platoons that is why it is also known as a robocar.
  • Car is a combination of sensors, cameras, radar, and artificial intelligence (AI) to travel between destinations without a human operator.

Levels of Autonomy :

Autonomy in the vehicle categorized into main three-six levels which as follows:

  • No Automation
  • Hands-on/ Shared Control
  • Eyes off
  • Mind off
  • Steering Wheel Optional

Technology :

The traits of semiautonomous vehicles, like digital technology, are distinguishable from different forms of technologies and vehicles. these characteristics mean autonomous automobiles can be more transformative and agile to feasible modifications. The traits consist of hybrid navigation, homogenization and decoupling, automobile conversation structures, reprogrammable and smart, digital traces, and modularity

Testing of these Vehicles :

The testing if the vehicle can either tested physically, in a closed environment, or on a public road with a permit license with it.

Availability of the car :

This driverless car is not available for everyday consumers. The UK is the first country to have a self-driving car in the world.

Disadvantage :

Self Driving Cars have a higher rate of accidents than human-driven cars.

History :

Experiments using the automated driving system have conducted since at least the 1920s. The trials began in 1750 and the first semi-automated car firstly manufactured in the year 1977 by Japan’s Tsukuba Mechanical Engineering Laboratory. The vehicle reached speeds up to 30 kilometers per hour with the support of an elevated rail.
